As green concerns grow, fleet managers can only expect legislation demands and other environmental pressures to get tougher. The EU already has a strategy to cut CO2 emissions from new passenger cars by 25% between now and 2012 – to 120g per km through taxation and other measures. EU member states are also required to ensure that biofuels account for a certain percentage of all fuels sold by 2010.
There is also new regulation in other areas. The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), established in 1997, sets exacting standards for the safety of new cars.
